Omega Reference Number Lookup
Identify collection, material, diameter and dial from any Omega reference — modern PIC, 1988–2007, 1962–1988 and pre-1962 systems
Where to find your Omega reference number
Depending on the era, the reference is engraved between the lugs (behind the strap), inside the case back, or printed on the warranty card and original papers. Do not confuse it with the serial number (7–8 digits, no dots): the reference describes the model, while the serial identifies your specific watch and lets you date it with our Omega Serial Number Check.
The modern PIC: 14 digits, 6 groups
Since 2007, Omega has used the « Product Identity Code »: AAA.BB.CC.DD.EE.FFF. Every group means something — it is the most readable system the brand has ever used.
| Group | Meaning | Example (310.30.42.50.01.001) |
|---|---|---|
| AAA | Collection: 1xx Constellation, 2xx Seamaster, 3xx Speedmaster, 4xx De Ville, 5xx special editions | 310 = Speedmaster Moonwatch |
| BB | Case material + strap type (2nd digit: 0 metal, 2 leather, 3 rubber/fabric) | 30 = steel on steel bracelet |
| CC | Case diameter in millimetres | 42 = 42 mm |
| DD | Movement type + number of additional complications | 50 = hand-wound chronograph |
| EE | Dial (01 black, 03 blue… Omega does not publish the full table) | 01 = black |
| FFF | Variant number | 001 |
1988–2007: the 7-digit references
Format XXXX.XX — the first digit gives the family (1 Constellation, 2 Seamaster, 3 Speedmaster, 4 De Ville), the second the material, and the suffix the dial colour: the legendary Moonwatch 3570.50 is a black-dial Speedmaster, and James Bond’s Seamaster 2531.80 owes its « .80 » to its blue dial.
1962–1988: the three-digit key
References like ST 145.022 or 166.024 read digit by digit, following the key reconstructed by collectors:
| Position | Values |
|---|---|
| 1st digit | 1 = gents’ watch, 5 = ladies’ watch |
| 2nd digit | 0/3 = manual winding, 4 = manual chronograph, 6 = automatic, 7 = automatic chronograph |
| 3rd digit | 5 = water-resistant, 6 = water-resistant + date, 7 = chronometer, 8 = chronometer + date |
Examples: the Speedmaster 145.022 = gents + manual chronograph + water-resistant; the Seamaster 166.024 = gents + automatic + water-resistant with date; the Constellation 168.017 = gents + automatic + certified chronometer with date.
The letter prefix indicates the material: ST steel, OT/OJ solid gold, KO gold cap, PK gold-filled, MD gold-plated. Before 1962 you will find CK/MI for steel — the 1957 CK 2915, the first Speedmaster, is the most famous of these short references, which follow no public codification.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an Omega reference and serial number?
The reference (with dots, e.g. 310.30.42.50.01.001) describes the model; the serial number (7–8 digits, no dots) is unique to your watch and is used to date it.
What do the 14 digits of a modern Omega reference mean?
Collection (3 digits), case material and strap (2), diameter in mm (2), movement and complications (2), dial (2), variant (3). Our decoder reads them automatically.
What does ST mean in front of a vintage Omega reference?
ST stands for stainless steel (Staybrite). OT/OJ indicate solid gold, KO gold cap, PK gold-filled and MD gold-plated.
My reference is not recognised — what should I do?
Check the engraving (case back or between the lugs) and the format. Some early or pocket-watch references fall outside the standard systems: send us photos via the contact page, identification is free.
